How Safestart Works
Safestart works by teaching individuals how to use their brain as PPE, and to take responsibility for their own safety.
Everyone knows that keeping your mind on the task and your eyes on the task is important whether you are operating a crane or driving a car. So why do you need to train employees on how to do it?
To reduce injuries and keep mistakes/errors down, you must first understand why they occur. Corrective actions on incident reports that state the person is to be more careful do not help. Employees need tools which will teach them how to keep safety in mind when they really need to.
After surveying more than 20,000 people we found that 85-95% of injuries are caused by people committing 4 critical errors whilst carrying out their own actions:-
- Mind not on task
- Eyes not on task
- People being or getting into the line of fire
- People losing balance/traction or grip
Furthermore, we also found out that when they make these critical errors they are in one of these 4 states:-
- Rushing
- Frustration
- Fatigue
- Complacency
Safestart teaches people to understand these principles and develops critical error reduction techniques to reduce the risk of injury in any situation – at work, at home, or on the road.

Critical Error Reduction Techniques (CERT)
Safestart helps people develop the skills to recognise when they are in one of these states before they make a critical error, and in turn prevent the error from being made. This is made possible by practising these four techniques:
- Self-trigger on the state (or amount of hazardous energy) so you don't make a critical error.
- Analyse close calls and small errors (to prevent agonising over big ones).
- Look at others for the patterns that increase the risk of injury.
- Work on habits.
